Trader Joe’s Recalls Yogurt Dip and Tahini Sauce Over Listeria Concerns
Headed to a Friendsgiving party? You may want to think twice before swinging by Trader Joe’s to grab a tub or two of dip. On Wednesday, the grocery store issued a recall for their Cilantro & Chive Yogurt Dip (SKU #78720) and Tahini Sauce (SKU #78723) due to potential listeria contamination.
The products have been removed from stores, and no illnesses have been reported to date. The company is asking anyone who has purchased either product to discard it or return it to their local Trader Joe’s for a full refund. Customers with questions can contact Trader Joe’s at 626-599-3817.
If nothing else, the recall is a good excuse for you to try your hand at making dip at home. To re-create the yogurt dip, combine 2 cups plain Greek yogurt and ½ cup sour cream or crème fraiche. Stir in 1 small bunch of chopped cilantro, a handful of chopped chives, the juice and zest of 1 lemon, a generous pinch of salt, and several grinds black pepper. Garnish with more cilantro and chives. Switch it up throughout the holiday season with different herbs (we love the fresh dill in this Yogurt, Dill, and Walnut Dip).
Homemade tahini sauce is just as easy. Simply whisk together tahini, lemon juice and zest, olive oil, salt and pepper, and enough warm water to achieve the consistency of your liking. We break it down for you in this recipe.
This isn't the first time Trader Joe's has recalled products due to listeria concerns. In May, they recalled their Vegetable Fried Rice and Chicken Fried Rice. To learn more about listeria, check out our list of facts on the foodborne illness.
