Bacon and egg on a burger? Yes please

If old Outback Steakhouse commercials taught us anything about the culinary ethos of Australia, it’s that the country doesn’t follow any rules and does everything just right. For a perfect modern-day example of just that, we turn to McDonald’s Australia’s Big Brekkie Burger.

This behemoth includes a hash brown, bacon, egg, and cheese, all jammed between a “100% Aussie beef patty and a generous dollop of BBQ sauce” and wrapped in a sesame seed bun. It’s almost as if McDonald’s Australia wanted to create a brunch item by smashing together it’s breakfast and lunch offerings.

Unfortunately, a beast like this is hard to find. It’s only available in select McDonald’s locations in OZ, despite the protestations of Britons still reeling from the recent shortage of KFC chicken. Even though McDonald’s breakfast now runs 24 hours in the States and this thing’s essentially a souped-up burger, it seems to only be available until 10:30 AM local time.

Fittingly, this burger also fits into Australia’s reputation for having a ton of animals who could kill you. Though it isn’t quite as lethal as a sting from a box jellyfish, this calorie-heavy meal certainly isn’t easy on the arteries. The Brekkie Burger is loaded with 796 calories, 1,500 milligrams of sodium, and 17.6 grams of saturated fat.

Still, credit to McDonald’s Australia for managing to fit a bacon, egg, and cheese inside of a burger. That’s something that America’s fast food restaurants could learn to emulate.
